Thoughts on Accessories

If you've been following along for a while, you might have heard me mention that one of my style goals for this year is to expand and update my accessory collection.

Accessories can be an unsung hero. One piece of jewelry or a pretty headband can go with many more outfits than a shirt or a skirt, for example, and having different accessory options can really maximize your options within your existing wardrobe. Here are some of my favorite picks!

Hair:

Hair accessories are highly underrated, at least in my opinion. Instead of throwing second-day hair back in a ponytail, why not pull it back with a pretty clip? Or add a headband? There's a sea of options.

My favorite hair accessory has got to be a simple headband. You can choose something understated or pick a stand-out piece, like my favorite pearl headband (linked below). I usually wear headbands with second-day hair when I don't want my hair in my face, but I still want to wear it down and get another day out of my style.

When I don't feel in the mood for a headband (sometimes, I'll admit, my hair just doesn't want to cooperate) I usually go for an oval barette. There's something so classic about the oval shape; it looks incredibly elegant with every outfit. I will either pull back the front pieces of my hair and pin them behind my head, or I'll clip back the side opposite my part.

My last choice for hair accessories is a bow ponytail holder. These are the perfect remedy for those I-have-to-wear-a-ponytail days, and they come in lots of different colors and patterns.

Jewelry:

There's really nothing easier than a statement necklace or a pretty pair of earrings to spice up an outfit. A simple button down can go from casual to dressy with the right accessories; so can a dress or really any other piece in your wardrobe.

Personally, I'm partial to pearls - I wear my pearl earrings almost every day, and I also love them on necklaces and bracelets.

When I don't have my pearl earrings in, I'll usually be seen wearing the kate spade bow earrings (pictured above). Sadly, they don't sell them anymore, but they're easy to find second hand (Poshmark is a great resource for this) for very reasonable prices. Choose rose gold or yellow gold; either are gorgeous!

Speaking of kate spade, I also love their idiom bangles and bow ring. I don't wear rings often but when I do it's almost always my bow ring; it's so dainty but still a bit more dressed up than a simple band.

Watches are also something I adore. My most versatile watch is probably my gold Jacqueline watch from fossil, but I also love the options from Daniel Wellington. They're an easy way to look polished, and they easily go from dressy to laid-back.

Finally, one of the most unique (and adorable!) bracelets I've seen are the Vickers Bow bracelets from Kiel James Patrick. They come in a multitude of patterns; personally, I'm drawn to the tartan, but there's something to suit everyone!
