College Visits in the Midwest

Last weekend was a four-day weekend for us to mark the end of the first semester. My mom and I took the opportunity to head up to Chicago, then Indiana to visit Notre Dame University and Northwestern University. I don't want to give too many details, but I can say that I loved seeing the campuses and spending time with my mom!

I packed for cold below l0 degrees so you can imagine my surprise when I stepped off the plane into 40-degree weather in January. That's practically balmy even for Northern VA, and I couldn't believe I was experiencing those temperatures - in the midwest, no less. Needless to say, we were extremely lucky!

This is one of the rare occasions when you'll see me wearing distressed denim. I bought this pair of jeans long while ago at Old Navy to try out the style. I love Old Navy for items that I'm unsure about and don't want to spend a fortune on. These come from Old Navy's rockstar line (which, as many of you know, I'm a huge fan of - especially their sateen pants and cords), which means they're one of the most comfortable jeans I own. That's the main reason why I brought them along for this trip - I wanted something ultra comfortable for the plane ride. I channeled my inner Sarah Vickers by pairing the distressed denim with a classic button-down under a cozy fair isle sweater. I'm not sure if I can pull that look off, but I can say that I tried!

Since it was raining off and on this day,  I wore my Hunter rainboots as well. I changed out of them before departing to the airport later that day; instead, I opted for the gold J.Crew x New Balance sneakers I bought last year for my trip to London. Those are my go-to airport shoes because they're comfortable and easy to take off in the security line. As always, I would definitely recommend taking a look at their line if you're looking for the perfect pair of (stylish!) sneakers. My bag is my monogrammed canvas tote from Land's End - the perfect carry-on and all-around everyday tote, in my opinion. Definitely another travel staple of mine!
