Spring House Sunset

Perhaps my favorite place on Block Island is the Spring House Hotel. There are many famous, beautiful Victorian hotels on the island - Hotel Manisses, the National, and the Atlantic Inn to name a few - but nothing really tops the Spring House in terms of location. If you've ever been to Block Island, you've definitely seen the line of white adirondack chairs that line the Spring House lawn and overlook the ocean. There is nothing better than spending an evening sitting in one of those chairs, watching the sunset and enjoying a warm drink (yes, the restaurant actually does provide service to the chairs!). That's exactly what Mary and I did to end what we dubbed our "best friend date night". We enjoyed a late dinner at the National Hotel Tap & Grille; it was my first time eating there but the salad I got was delicious and the view of Old Harbor from the deck was spectacular. Afterward, we stopped to get some sweet treats (Mary got an ice cream cone from the Ice Cream Place, and I bought a dark chocolate peanut butter cup from Blocks of Fudge -- talk about death by chocolate), then took a leisurely walk up to Spring House to enjoy the sunset.

We both wanted to dress up, so I chose this J.Crew tired dress that I've been dying to wear. It's from last year's summer collection but I bought it second hand back in June. I love how effortless it is, and a maxi dress like this is perfect for chillier evenings paired with a light cardigan. For that, I wore the same white cardigan that's made several appearances on the blog -- I've actually gotten a few questions about it on Instagram; it's the J.Crew Jackie Cardigan (one of their mainstay styles) in the summerweight cotton. I've had mine for years and I love it; they do run small, though, so I'd definitely size up! Finally, I wore my favorite earrings for the summer. I saw these clamshell earrings in store early in the season and I immediately fell in love. When they went on sale I snagged them, and wore them all over the island! They're relatively lightweight and go with most things, but make a statement and instantly add a touch of nautical flair to whatever you pair them with.

The rest of my jewelry was fairly simple, with the exception of my new rope bracelet from Kiel James Patrick. This is a special Block Island edition of KJP's classic rope style; it has a small gold charm attached to the anchor with an engraving of the island on one side, and its coordinates on the other. I've seen this style in Bock Island Trading Company for three summers now, and each time I've convinced myself not to buy it only to regret it later. This year I decided to finally treat myself, and I'm so so happy I did! I love this piece so much and have found it to be even more versatile than I expected, and it fills a unique place in my collection as I didn't have anything like it.
