Go Go Gingham

top: Banana Republic (old, similar) // skirt: Kate Spade (old, similar) // shoes: J.Crew (old, similar) // earrings: J.Crew // bracelet: Kiel James Patrick

Behind blue and white stripes, gingham is my favorite pattern for the summertime. There's something about it that just epitomizes summer for me. This Banana Republic top was sort of a no-brainer purchase for me a few months ago. I'd been keeping an eye on it to see if it would go on sale, since the full price of around $100 was faaaaaar more than I was willing to spend on a top. Banana is a little interesting in that not every item will be rotated into sale after a certain amount of time (like most stores), but the pieces that do can often be bought at a steep discount because they frequently offer an extra % off of their sale items. You just have to be lucky and hope that your favorites make it into the sale section! Thankfully, this top was one of them. I ended up snagging it for around $30 after shipping and tax, which I considered a major steal given how adorable it is and the high ticket price!

Aside from the pattern (side note: I also love that they went for a larger check rather than a traditional smaller gingham. I'm always a sucker for modern twists on classic details, but I digress), I also love the unique bow sleeves. They're a challenge to tie by yourself, but if you have a considerate BFF to tie them for you, you're good to go! Ties - be it on the sleeves, neck or sometimes even the hems of pants - seem to be a signature part of Banana's designs and I really love that, especially given that most of their pieces are uber-classic items.

You've seen my skirt before; it's an old favorite Kate Spade number that seems to magically go with everything. It has an adorable bow detail on the waist as well that, according to the tag, is supposed to go in the back, but I sometimes wear it in the front depending on the outfit. Today I wore it as it's intended to let the top really shine. I also put on my shell earrings because, well, why not? I've gushed on and on about these, but they're just too adorable to not wear them in every possible scenario! Not to detract from the earrings, I wore my KJP pearl and link bracelet which added some interest but wasn't overly distracting. This is my go-to piece of jewelry for when I've got an outfit that needs a little something but already has a lot going on, be it with loud patterns, embellishments, or lots of details. My loafers are also an old favorite but soooo insanely comfortable. I'm so sad that J.Crew isn't keeping this style in its permanent line, as I would have loved these in another color!
