Lively Ivy

dress: J.Crew (old, also love this one) // blazer: J.Crew (old, current version) // shoes: J.Crew Factory (old, similar) // sunglasses: Karen Walker // pearl bracelet: Kiel James Patrick // tote: L.L. Bean (old, similar)

I can't wait for the weather to actually get cooler. The second the temperature drops one degree here in Philly I practically turn into that GIF of the dancing guy with the pumpkin head haha. It feels like I've hit a fashion wall, both in terms of my motivation to put together outfits and my inspiration. All of my best outfit ideas seem to be ultra-autumnal, but the weather just isn't cooperating!

Today's outfit is an example of what I tend to wear during this awkward summer-to-fall transition period. Take a summery dress (this cotton tie-neck shift is from J.Crew) and pair it with a blazer to add an extra layer of warmth. Blazers are a fabulous piece to take your wardrobe from summer to fall without much extra effort; wear them over a simple tee and jeans for a casual look, or dress things up with a skirt or dress. If it gets too hot, just throw them over your shoulder! One thing to note, though:  go for a linen blazer at this time of year; a wool blazer will have you overheating the second you step outside. The blazer that I'm wearing here is a linen seersucker with an adorable gingham pattern (one of my summer faves!). As the weather grows cooler, I'll be phasing this piece out of my wardrobe and reaching more and more for my solid navy blazer to pair with my more autumnal pieces. For shoes, I chose my staple embellished sandals that I bought a few years ago at J.Crew Factory. I love this version that's currently on sale, and for cooler weather, I'd choose a classic pair of nude flats.

I hope you're enjoying the month of September, and I'm looking forward to bringing more fall content to the blog soon!
