Faux Fur for Fall

sweater: J.Crew (old, also love this one) // vest: J.Crew // skirt: J.Crew (old, similar) // boots: Tory Burch (old, current season, more affordable option) // watch: Michael Kors (old, similar) // bracelet: Nautical Notions

Things I love about cold-weather fashion:

  • Tortoiseshell details
  • Corduroy
  • Hues of caramel
  • Chunky knits
  • Riding boots
This outfit checks all the boxes. My latest go-to is an A-line skirt (I have so many different options in this style - from houndstooth to plaid) paired with a warm sweater. In the past, I religiously tucked my sweaters into my skirts. Lately, however, I think I've definitely begun to prefer sweaters untucked. There's something very comfortable, casual, and cozy about wearing a sweater loose (like you just threw it on!). The sweater that I wore today is one of my most-worn pieces. It's an archival 1988 Crew style that they brought back a few years ago; the roll-neck and simple navy stripes are completely seasonless, and it works just as well under a vest as it does with a pair of shorts on a chilly summer evening.

Speaking of vests, I hunted down this vest second-hand earlier this year. It's made of that "teddy" material that was popular last year and is making a comeback again this fall/winter. While I'm not a huge fan of the over-the-top teddy outerwear (I'm looking at you, Crew, with your hot pink teddy coats of years past), I think that it's actually a very classic fabric when you choose a simple neutral shade. Beyond that, it's just so warm -- the definition of coziness. I've been wearing this vest over most of my outfits this time of year, especially during chilly evenings when I need to walk from the dorm to the dining halls.

Finally, let's talk about corduroy. I've spoken about how much I love my cords in the past, and nothing's changed there! It's not quite cold enough to really break out corduroy pants, but corduroy skirts are more than appropriate. Especially with a pair of tall boots (hello, riding boots), this skirt has been a major favorite of mine. The deep warm brown makes it incredibly versatile, and I love how it goes with almost anything in my wardrobe. It's a few years old now, but I've linked a few different options below if you're interested in trying out a cord skirt yourself!
