Diary of a Sweater Lover

I've spoken about the J.Crew Turtleneck Sweater in Supersoft Yarn before, but I love it so much I thought it deserved its own outfit post.

Several years ago my aunt gifted me a Madewell Inland Sweater in their "Coziest Yarn" fabric. I love that sweater, and my favorite part about it is the material -- a stretchy, ultra-soft and NOT-itchy blend that, in my eyes, is perfect for a turtleneck. When J.Crew brought out sweaters in what they called "supersoft yarn" this year, I was curious to see if it was the same material as their sister brand Madewell. I ordered one to test out my theory, and not only was I right, but I also unexpectedly fell in love with the cut of the sweater. The inclusion of side slits and a slightly longer back panel makes this by far the most flattering turtleneck I own. It's so easy to throw this style on with a pair of jeans and riding boots or flats; you instantly look put-together but you feel like you're wrapped in a snuggly blanket.

The periwinkle shade of the sweater I'm wearing above is unique to my winter wardrobe, but I actually really love how it pairs with my typical color palette of jewel tones. When my best friend Mary first saw me wearing this sweater, she said: "oh my god it's not a crayon color! I love it." (crayon colors is Mary-code for jewel tones). You know you have a signature palette when your friend immediately notices any change from the norm! In this outfit, I wore the bright blue with my vintage Tory Burch loafers I scored last year. These shoes are some of my favorite (I call them my "beetle shoes"), and the color is a little hard to pin down - sometimes they look more eggplant, sometimes more oxblood. I think the cool tone of the sweater brought out the purple in the shoes. For contrast, I added my warm pink coat, and a navy scarf to keep warm as well as pull out the navy lining, navy monogram, and bag.
