Friday Roundup #9

28 December 2018

1. Christmas Celebrations

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! My family and I had a festive Christmas Eve dinner (complete with my dad's famous "harvest smashies" squash and potato dish), attended Church service, and opened presents. Christmas morning we did stockings, and then drove up to New York to enjoy a wonderful Christmas dinner with our extended family. We do this same routine almost every year, and I love it!

2. Vice's Podcast Chapo: Kingpin on Trial

Ever since I finished Doctor Death I'd been looking for a new story-based podcast. Vice's podcast about El Chapo's ongoing trial ticked a bunch of boxes for me: it combines my love for story/narrative, and true crime podcasts, and follows a similar theme as the Netflix series Narcos, which I finished this past summer. I'm four episodes in and loving it so far. I'd never listened to one of Vice's podcasts before and I was really impressed by how well-done Chapo was. Not surprising, given how great Vice's Youtube documentaries are!

3. Brand Discovery: eShatki

I recently came across the brand eShatki on Instagram, and I was immediately shocked that I hadn't heard about them before. They allow you to totally customize the garments they design, both in terms of your exact measurements (including height - very important to me as a tall girl) but also in terms of the cut and style of the garment. While they're not the first brand to follow this customizable idea, their affordable pricing and classic designs stand out to me. In particular, they have a line of occasionwear that looks absolutely gorgeous and could be a great option for someone who wants a custom dress without the hefty price tag.

4. KeepCup

My friend Mary bought me the 12oz KeepCup for Christmas, and I've used it nonstop for the past few days. A goal of mine for 2019 is to reduce my single-use plastic and paper usage, which for me mainly involves cutting back on the coffee cups I buy. The KeepCup is the perfect size and, as a bonus, it looks great too. If a reusable coffee cup can look chic, this one does!

5. Back into Reading

I've been trying to read more books this winter break and really get back into reading for fun like I used to when I was younger. Right now I'm working through Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, and I also hope to finish Memoirs of a Geisha. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me!
