Wintry Mix

We kicked off the holiday season with a wintry mix. In the midst of the dreary weather, it's so nice to have a snow day to lift everyone's mood. As I write this, we have flurries in the forecast, and I hope we get a little snow to walk through on our way to class! As I've said before, I've had to come to grips with the major reality that you have to walk everywhere in college. That makes dressing for the weather an imperative. When it snowed at home, I didn't necessarily plan on trekking several blocks in the snow, but at college, class is on whether it's snowing or not. I've been pulling out my bean boots more and more frequently lately; they truly are the most practical shoe I own. To make them warmer, I wear them with camp socks (you can even double-layer socks if you want).

I've also been layering sweaters over almost everything I own; on this day, I wore my favorite embellished-collar oxford (an old Crew style) with my L.L.Bean fisherman sweater. I love how the white pairs with the cream! I've also thrown on a tissue turtleneck underneath an oxford-sweater combo for those extra cold days.

Of course, a coat is a must. I recently received this pink top coat from J.Crew and I'm completely in love. J.Crew's coats are always winners for me, but this style - with adorable ruffle-trimmed pockets and tortoiseshell buttons - is just darling and so unique. This color, which I'd say is a pink verging on camel, is completely unique to my winter wardrobe but I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it pairs with other shades. I especially love it with navy, which is evident in the fact that it has a gorgeous navy lining.

Finally, I've been pulling out my Old Navy Stevie pants recently. I bought these two years ago and they're still going strong. I love how they feel like leggings, look like trousers, and are insanely comfortable! The seam down the front adds an equestrian feel that I love. Old Navy has them available in solid shades, suede, and fun plaids - definitely pick some up if you're a fan (and they come in tall sizes, too!).
