Perfectly Plaid

cardigan: J.Crew (old, similar) // dress: Kiel James Patrick // socks: L.L.Bean (discontinued, similar here) // boots: Tory Burch (old, current season here) // coat: J.Crew (sold out, similar) // rope ring: Kiel James Patrick // claddagh ring: The Irish Jewlers

A flannel dress is the perfect balance between comfort and style during the winter months. I had been dying to try the Kiel James Patrick Cozy Cabin Flannel Dresses (that's a mouthful) and finally snagged this one off of Poshmark over winter break. I absolutely love how soft and warm the flannel is, while the fit-and-flare cut with ruffle collar adds a polish that contrasts the casual nature of the material. The color scheme of this particular dress drew me in, as well; I always feel like red- and green-based flannels are inherently "Christmas-y" to me (see my last outfit post for lamentations about post-holiday dressing), but this blue-based flannel is still very winter appropriate without at all invoking the holiday season.

I paired the flannel with my favorite chunky cardigan to add extra warmth for an afternoon in Georgetown. I love the subtle pattern mixing with the stripes and flannel! I always get questions about whether I'm cold wearing dresses and skirts in the winter; while I definitely wouldn't recommend them during polar vortex weather, a pair of wool tights and tall camp socks with boots make them totally doable for me when the weather is 35+ degrees.

On this afternoon it began to snow in DC -- the first in several days of wintry weather that blanketed the city before I left to go back to college. Walking through Georgetown with my younger brother while the sky darkened and snow drifted down was one of my favorite memories from break!
